First Reading : Isaiah 30:19-21, 23-26
19 O people in Zion, inhabitant in Jerusalem, you will weep no longer. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you. 20 Although the Lord has given you bread of privation and water of oppression, He, your Teacher will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will behold your Teacher. 21 Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.
23 Then He will give you rain for the seed which you will sow in the ground, and bread from the yield of the ground, and it will be rich and plenteous; on that day your livestock will graze in a roomy pasture. 24 Also the oxen and the donkeys which work the ground will eat salted fodder, which has been winnowed with shovel and fork. 25 On every lofty mountain and on every high hill there will be streams running with water on the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall. 26 The light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, on the day the Lord binds up the fracture of His people and heals the bruise He has inflicted.
Psalm 147:1-6
147
Praise the Lord!
For it is good to sing praises to our God;
For it is pleasant and praise is becoming.
2
The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
He gathers the outcasts of Israel.
3
He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds.
4
He counts the number of the stars;
He gives names to all of them.
5
Great is our Lord and abundant in strength;
His understanding is infinite.
6
The Lord supports the afflicted;
He brings down the wicked to the ground.
Second Reading : Also read Psalm 146;
Gospel : Matthew 9:35 - 10:1, 6-8.
35 Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. 36 Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then He *said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38 Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
The Twelve Disciples; Instructions for Service
10 Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.
6 but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.
Focus: ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ (Matthew 10:7)
Fruit: With Jesus' help let me do that one deed today that will make others feel that His kingdom has truly come.
